  • Body oils and sweat, which slowly break down the coating
  • Denim dye transfer onto light-colored seats
  • Grit carried in on clothing, acting as a mild abrasive on bolsters

A simple routine

  • Vacuum seams and perforations before wiping, so grit is not dragged around
  • Clean with a pH-balanced leather cleaner every couple of months
  • Condition two to four times a year with a light, matte-finish product
  • Wipe the driver's bolster more often — it takes the most friction
  • Use a sunshade when parked in direct sun for long periods
