Ceramic Coating in San Francisco
A durable cured layer over corrected paint that makes washing easier and resists contamination.
A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that cures into a hard, hydrophobic layer bonded to the clear coat. It does not make paint invulnerable, but it changes how the surface behaves: water sheets off, road film releases more easily, and contamination has a harder time bonding.
For a car that lives outdoors in a damp, foggy environment, that behavior matters more than gloss. Less time for grime to sit and grip means fewer aggressive washes over the life of the paint.

Preparation is most of the job
A coating locks in whatever is underneath it, so the surface has to be right first. That means a decontamination wash, iron removal, clay, panel wipe, and usually some level of machine polishing to remove swirls and etching before anything is applied.
Skipping prep is the most common reason people are disappointed with a coating. Sealing swirl marks under a durable layer means living with them for years.
What it does and does not do
- Does: repel water, reduce staining from droppings and sap when addressed promptly, make maintenance washes faster
- Does: hold gloss and depth far longer than wax
- Does not: prevent rock chips or deep scratches
- Does not: remove the need to wash the vehicle
- Does not: make bird droppings safe to leave on the paint for a week
Curing and aftercare in a damp climate
Coatings need time to cure, and humidity affects that window. We plan the appointment so the vehicle can stay dry for the recommended period — usually easier in a garage than at a street spot in the fog belt.
Afterward, maintenance is simple but not optional. Our ceramic coating maintenance guide covers wash frequency and what to avoid.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a coating last?
Depending on the product, the prep, and how the car is stored and washed, typically a few years. Outdoor-parked cars see more wear than garaged ones.
Does my car need correction first?
Usually some. New cars may only need a light polish; older daily drivers often need a correction stage. We evaluate the paint before quoting.
Can a coating be applied at my home?
Yes, when the environment is suitable. A garage or covered space is strongly preferred so dust and moisture do not interfere with the cure.
